Job Summary:
The Middle East Studies Program at the University of San Francisco invites applications for a part-time faculty position to teach a course (on-site, in person) in Palestinian Studies starting in Spring 2025.

Full Job Description:

The successful candidate will teach one, four-unit undergraduate course in Palestinian Studies during the Spring 2025 semester. The course should cover topics such as Palestine's history, politics, and culture. It should also incorporate discussions on social justice and the practical application of theoretical knowledge to real-world issues.

The individual hired for this position will work alongside a dynamic group of interdisciplinary faculty in the Middle East Studies Program, housed within the College of Arts and Sciences, who aim to expand the program's engagement with critical issues concerning the Middle East, particularly Palestine and its global context.

We are looking for candidates who can incorporate interdisciplinary approaches and engage students in theoretical discussions and practical applications of their work. The successful candidate will contribute to the program's broader focus on Middle Eastern and North African studies.

Qualifications
  • MA required, Ph.D preferred in Middle East Studies or related field: Anthropology, History, Politics, Sociology, or a related discipline, with a strong emphasis on Palestinian history, politics, culture, and society.
  • Interdisciplinary expertise in Palestine Studies: The candidate's scholarly work should demonstrate a robust interdisciplinary grounding in Palestine Studies, with experience in analyzing complex issues such as displacement, human rights, and international law.
  • University-level teaching experience: A proven track record of teaching courses at the university level, particularly in topics related to Middle Eastern and Palestine Studies, is required. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to engage students through a combination of lectures, discussions, and applied learning.
  • Commitment to student engagement: The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated ability to engage students both in and outside of the classroom to support their learning and success, particularly those from underrepresented groups such as BIPOC, LGBTQ+, first-generation, immigrant, international, as well as students from various faith traditions.
  • Record of community engagement preferred: A strong record of engaging with the community, whether through public scholarship, advocacy, or collaboration with organizations, is preferred. The candidate should be committed to applying their academic expertise in ways that contribute to societal or policy solutions related to Palestine.
  • Dedication to diversity, equity, and inclusion: The ideal candidate will demonstrate a commitment to working in a culturally diverse environment and teaching our diverse student body.
